Dr. Alex Trussell

Dr. Alex Trussell is a consultant neurologist with subspecialty training in epilepsy and stroke. He completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney and undertook advanced fellowship training in stroke at Eastern Health and an honorary fellowship in epilepsy at Austin Health.

He has particular interests in epilepsy, first seizure assessment, functional neurological disorder, complex headache management, and stroke. Dr. Trussell is committed to thorough assessment, clear communication, and shared decision-making with patients and their families.

He is an Honorary Fellow at the Austin Health Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, the Epilepsy Society of Australia, and the Functional Neurological Disorder Society.

Epilepsy

Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing management of epilepsy and seizure disorders. Includes medication optimisation, drug-resistant epilepsy, pre-surgical evaluation, and specialist advice for women of childbearing age.

Stroke

Assessment and secondary prevention of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke, including risk factor management, post-stroke follow-up, and investigation of stroke in younger patients.

Headache

Diagnosis and management of migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache, and other headache disorders. Includes preventive strategies and acute treatment plans.

EEG

Interpretation of routine, ambulatory, and prolonged EEG recordings. EEG reporting for investigation of seizures, encephalopathy, and other neurological conditions.

Functional Neurological Disorder

Diagnosis and management of functional neurological disorder (FND), including functional seizures, functional movement disorders, and functional limb weakness. A positive, evidence-based approach focused on explanation, rehabilitation, and recovery.

General Neurology

Broad neurological assessment for conditions including numbness, weakness, tremor, memory concerns, dizziness, and other neurological symptoms requiring specialist evaluation.
